Crucell conducts research and development in selected protein areas. These include recombinant blood factors and other recombinant plasma products, and recombinant monoclonal antibodies for hemostasis and infectious disease.

Recombinant Proteins

In 2005, Crucell began focusing on using PER.C6® technology for the production of blood factors. Blood factors perform a central role in haemostasis disorders, which can result in hemophilia and thrombosis.

Recombinant Antibodies

Antibodies are proteins made naturally by cells of the body's immune system. They function as one of the body's principal defense mechanisms against pathogens, which are disease causing agents such as parasites, viruses or bacteria. Antibodies recognize and bind to invading pathogens, ultimately eliminating them. Thus, antibodies play a crucial role in protecting humans against disease. Human monoclonal antibodies can be used as prophylactic or therapeutic medicines against infectious diseases.
