PERCIVIA PER.C6® joint venture

In 2006, Crucell and joint venture partner Royal DSM opened the PERCIVIA PER.C6®  Development Center in Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States. The center was designed to further develop the PER.C6®  cell line for the production of pharmaceutical proteins and to provide turnkey solutions for licensees in this area.

In September 2010, the joint venture partners announced an expansion of these collaborative activities, with the transformation of the development center into a full biopharmaceutical company for the development of PER.C6® -based biobetter proteins and monoclonal antibodies, as well as global licensing of the PER.C6® human cell line for production of monoclonal antibodies and other proteins for third parties.  ‘Biobetters’ are biopharmaceutical products aimed at similar targets and with similar indications as existing biologics, but superior in terms of convenience/dosage form, clinical profile or a combination of both.

Are PER.C6®-based biologicals already available?

No, but a considerable number are well on their way to licensure and we see no obstacles to approval. Our confidence in this platform is based on the fact that it is not only protected by intellectual property, but also by the Cell Substrate Biologics Master File we have filed with the FDA. The regulatory agency is very comfortable with PER.C6® technology and has all relevant data to hand.
